Terms of Service

Encore is operated by Ryan Pike, trading as Encore, based in South Africa. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “Encore” mean Ryan Pike trading as Encore. You can reach us any time at hello@encore.gift.

An organizer sets up a campaign for a birthday, wedding, farewell or other milestone. We give the organizer a private link to share with friends and family, who we call storytellers. Storytellers use that link to send in letters, photos and voice notes for the person being celebrated. When the organizer is ready, we turn everything gathered into a single cinematic digital reveal for the recipient to open.

Encore has no user accounts. Instead, everyone involved gets a private link that acts as their access to the campaign. That link is effectively a key: anyone who has it can view or, depending on the link, contribute to the campaign. Please keep your links confidential and only share them with people you trust. We are not responsible for access gained through a link you shared or lost control of.

If you are the organizer, you confirm that you have the consent of the storytellers you invite to be contacted about the campaign, and that everything you personally submit is your own content, or content you have the right to share. You are responsible for choosing who to invite and for the accuracy of the details you give us, including the recipient’s name and the date of the reveal.

Contributors keep ownership of what they submit. Letters, photos and voice notes stay theirs. By submitting content, a contributor gives Encore a limited licence to host, process, edit into the reveal format, and present that content, solely for the purpose of delivering the campaign it was submitted to. We do not sell contributions, and we do not use them for anything beyond building and hosting that one reveal.

Please do not submit content that is unlawful, infringes someone else’s rights, or is abusive, harassing or hateful. We may refuse to include or may remove content that breaches this, and may refuse or cancel a campaign entirely, at our discretion. Where a campaign is cancelled for this reason after payment, we will decide on a fair refund at our discretion, taking into account how much of the service had already been delivered.

Payment is made once, when the organizer chooses their package, at the start, before storytellers are invited. From that point, collecting letters, photos and voice notes from storytellers is free. All payments are in South African Rand and processed securely by Paystack; Encore never sees or stores your card details. The exact price for a campaign is confirmed before you pay and depends on the package you choose. See our pricing page for the current packages. There is no subscription: it is a single, one-off payment per campaign.

Once a reveal is unlocked, it stays online for at least 12 months (longer for some occasions). Before that period ends, we will offer the organizer a full download of everything contributed, plus the option to extend hosting.

We provide Encore with reasonable care and skill, and we aim to make every reveal something worth the wait. That said, to the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Encore is capped at the amount you paid for the campaign in question. We are not liable for content submitted by storytellers, only for the service we provide in collecting and presenting it.

We may update these terms from time to time, for example as the service grows. Where a change is material, we will update the effective date above and, where reasonably possible, let organizers with active campaigns know by email.

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, and any dispute will be dealt with under South African law.
